Venue: Ålands Idrottscenter, Finström
Ålands Idrottscenter is situated 15 minutes by car from Mariehamn and its swimming pool was opened in November 2004. The 25 metres pool,
which was specially designed for competitions and training, has 8 lanes each of which is 2.5 metres wide. There are excellent changing facilities, saunas and a large café with indoor and outdoor seating.
The pool uses an advanced UV water filter system and there is permanent seating for 350 spectators. The Table Tennis competition will also be held at the Idrottscenter
Due to the opening of two new swimming centres on the island swimming has become the largest developing sport on Åland. There is a large junior section and Åland swimmers have been successful in national competitions at both junior and senior levels.
Åland has become a popular venue for training camps and large competitions such as the Finnish Junior Championships, which were held on the island in 2006.

During four intensive competition days, 40 events will be decided when the swimming gets underway in the swimming arena in Godby during the 2009 Island Games. 350 swimmers are expected to take part.

Bror Myllykoski has been appointed an international swimming referee by the international swimming association (FINA).
The Ålander is now one of only three Finnish swimming referees, with authorisation to referee at the highest level.

To make the pool facilities more user friendly for as well as competitors and spectators, the swimming organisors have had new stands put in and covered the children's paddling pool.
The swimming action will start on Monday, 29th. In the same complex the table tennis will also take place.
