Weather information:
We have had quite a lot of rain during the last weeks and it has been rather windy. The water temperature is 15 degrees C.
We hope for sunshine and warmer water so the temperature would rise, but is of course wise to be prepared for water temperatures around 15 degrees C..

Venue: Eastern Harbour, Mariehamn
Åland has excellent sailing facilities and two sailing clubs are situated in the centre of Mariehamn. Both clubs offer changing rooms, restaurants, storage facilities and separate rooms for officials.
The sailing competitions will be held in the Eastern Harbour Bay, a long narrow inlet stretching the lenght of Mariehamn on the east side of the town. The bay is spectator friendly and the lack of tidal water and sea currents will make for interesting sailing.
Windsurfing events will also be held in the Eastern Harbour Bay.
Sailing is one of Åland´s largest sports with regard to membership numbers. There are three sailing clubs on the island and the 2009 sailing competition will be organised by the Åländska Segelsällskapet (Åland Island Yacht Club), which is the oldest sports association on the island.

Sailing and windsurfing test event October 11th, 2008
The two yacht clubs, Åländska Segelsällskapet r.f. and Mariehamns Seglarförening r.f., are the organisers of the sailing and windsurfing events at the Games. Both have a lot of experience from organising various sailing events. The arena Mariebad is a newly built swimming pool directly on the water in Mariehamn and is the most spectator friendly arena for sailing and windsurfing.

Equipment provided
Brand new Lasers will be used during the NatWest Island Games XIII. Sails, lines, vang blocks, boards and tiller extension are also included in the provided equipment for the competitors.
The only thing the participators need to bring with them to Åland is a compass and wind indicator, together with their own personal sailing gear.
