Venue: Wiklöf Holding Arena, Mariehamn.
The athletics stadium is situated in the centre of Mariehamn and in addition to a 6-lane running track with Rubtan
surface holds all the required facilities for high jump, long jump, pole vault, javelin, shot put, hammer and discus competitions.
Within the stadium complex there are 6 changing rooms, toilets, café area and excellent facilities for officials and media. The stand has covered seating for 1650 spectators.
Since the early 1920's athletic events have been held on Åland and through the years a number of islanders have competed internationally. Our most famous island athlete is Janne Holmén who won the European Championship Marathon in 2002.
The local athletics association has a vast experience of successfully organising competitions and in 1999 it hosted the Finnish National Cross-country Championships with 600 competitors.

Sport co-ordinator Kennet Andersson has recruited his core staff and has everything under control. New equipment and refurbishment of the running track paves the way for good athletics. As an extra treat, the European marathon champion, Janne Holmén, might make his first appearance at the Island Games.
