Weather information:
We have had quite a lot of rain during the last week and it has been rather windy too. The water temperature was today 15 degrees C.
We hope for sunshine and warmer water so the temperature would rise, but it is of course wise to be prepared for water temperatures around 15 degrees C..

Venue: Eastern Bay, Mariehamn
Eastern Bay is a long narrow inlet stretching the length of Mariehamn on the east side of the town. The wind direction, which is predominately southerly during summertime, is regarded as being better in the bay than further out to sea as the bay is surrounded by small hills, which create a tunnel effect.
Mariebad, a new spa and swimming centre built on the shoreline will be the starting point for the windsurfing events. Mariebad, which has changing rooms and a café area, is in easy walking distance from central Mariehamn and the shoreline there will give spectators a good view of the competition course.
Mariehamns Segelförening (Mariehamn Yacht Club) is responsible for windsurfing on Åland. Although many islanders have a surfboard in the garage there are only about 20 who regularly train and compete.
At the start of the 1990's Åland's most famous windsurfer, Gustav Salmelin, competed in the World Cup while today Sara Beckman carries the Åland flag having competed at senior World Championship level and coming runner up at the Junior World Championships in 2004.
Åland has successfully hosted both the Finnish and the Scandinavian Championships.
