My area of responsibility during the Natwest Island Games XIII is:
As the Games Director I have a co-ordinating function and am going to have a encompassing overview into all the main areas. More specifically I'm responsible for the Games Office and taking care of the initial contacts with our main sponsors.
When I'm not helping out with the Åland Island Games I work as:
I have the advantage of having the Natwest Island Games as my main occupation from October 2007.
In my spare time I like to:
Go on long walks, flick through home decoration magazines and spend time with my family and friends. My daughter Céline, who is 2½ years old now, obviously gets a lot of my free time.
Number of Island Games I've participated in:
7
I can sum up my entire Island Games career in this way:
Åland 1991: line judge in volleyball
Gibraltar 1995: supporter
Jersey 1997: supporter
Gotland 1999: supporter
Isle of Man 2001: volleyball player
Guernsey 2003: volleyball player
Shetland 2005: member of the Åland Bid Committee but followed the Games from home in the company of the newborn Céline.
Rhodos 2007: supporter and member of the 2009 study-group
Member of the board for the Åland International Sporting Organisation, now the Åland Island Games Association, October 2001- October 2005.
Member of the Åland Supporters Club since 1995, and board member 1995- 2005.
Appointed in March 2006 as Games Director for the Natwest Island Games XIII.
My most vivid memory from the Island Games:
It was an unbelievably strong feeling to be part of the event in 1991, and that impression made me determined to be involved in one way or another again. It's difficult to put my finger on a particular event that I especially recall - all of the memories are unique.
A slightly unusual event which is difficult to forget was when one of my roommates during the Guernsey Games decided to wash their socks in the basin of the bathroom. She left the tap on while we were out, which resulted in a proper flood in our room. The water had even run through to the next floor. I'll probably never forget her face when she stood barefoot on the soaked carpet, with jeans rolled up to her knees ready to hang up the socks.
Why the Games are important for me:
The feeling of belonging and cross-border sporting joy is unique. It's something quite special to gather so many islanders in one place and allow them to compete under their own flags.
Why I want to take part in the NatWest Island Games XIII:
Because it's fun, challenging and developing
My visions/hopes for the Natwest Island Games are:
Fun n' Games
What is it that's going to make the NatWest XIII 2009 Åland Island Games special? What do you think the participants will remember most when they go home?
We will be able to offer high quality venues and those responsible for each sport are experienced, which means that the participants will feel that everything runs smoothly and that they can concentrate on their own performances. After all, they are primarily here to compete.
I think that everyone will remember the carnival, that Ålanders received them with open arms and that both participants and the local population got on well on Games Street.
