"Gymnastics in Åland has experienced an almost incredible growth during the last three years.

Since the town of Mariehamn invested in a hall filled with gymnastic equipment of international standard we have witnessed an increased interest in our sport.

I have participated in the Island Game since 1989, in the Faroe Islands, and the level of the exercises tends to get higher for every game.

Thereby the competitors demand for high- class equipment is natural. Here they can get what they want, which also will help them reach the good results."

Sabina Mattsson (also known as Sabina Stenbäck, before she got married), Gymnast and coach. At least 9 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 3 bronze medals from Island Games.

Moving experience for gymnastics

Dozens of gymnasts, parents, coaches and fans turned up to give the gymnastics venue Bollhalla a make over before the start of the Games in a few weeks' time. It all ran like clockwork when the floor was moved piece by piece from one end of the hall to the other. The biggest challenge was moving the floor cover and it took some manpower to shift it across the hall.
