Judo

On March 28-29, Åland was invaded by 140 judokas from all over the country to battle it out to become Finnish champions. The standard of the competitions was very high with athletes with experience from Olympic Games and European and world championships. At the same time, it was a great general rehearsal for the NatWest Island Games XIII.
Åland´s Judo Club were the organisors, headed by Eva Fellman and Diana Lindström. Eva is the chairman of the technical committee and Diana the judo sport coordinator.
- We have learnt a great deal we now can use when planning the NatWest Island Games this summer, says Diana.

Idrottsgården is a multipurpose sports hall located in central Mariehamn. There is an existing judo hall but the judo competition will be held in a larger hall measuring 18 x 32 metres.
